A fantastic day out at the beach only 1 hour 30 mins drive from Elsa of Kora.

It has a long history as a seaside resort and benefits from a micro-climate on a par with the Mediterranean coast. It was one of the very first resorts in France to arise from the newly discovered fashion for sea-bathing.Today it remains very much a place that the French choose when they go on holiday.

The beaches
Fantastic Atlantic coast beaches stretch for several kilometres either side of the town and are arguably the finest in France. They offer a choice ranging from child-friendly beaches near the town to the wild unspoilt beauty of the Cote Sauvage where you can find tranquility even in the height of the season. The Guide describes all the best local beaches with locations, nearby facilities, where to find parking and which are good for surfing and which are good for just lazing in the sun.

Plus ...
Splendid as they are, there is a lot more to Royan than just the beaches and you should certainly take the time to visit some of the nearby towns and villages, explore the countryside, take in some of the tourist attractions and of course try some local cognacs.....

La Rochelle, Ile de Ré, Ile d'Oléron, Bordeaux, Cognac and Saintes are all close by as are vineyards, oyster beds, the Gironde and small fishing ports. Great restaurants, markets and friendly people.
